Softer (and, dare we say it, more sophisticated) than black, brown is easily our favourite neutral for autumn/winter. Chocolate, espresso and tobacco shades look most polished: try Jigsaw's cashmere-rich jumper and Hush barrel trousers or Maje's scarf coat over a COS midi dress, or add an accent with Toteme's tiger's eye earrings, loafers or a leather bag.
